Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in south-western Uganda, at the junction of the plain and mountain forests, Bwindi Park covers 331 sq km and is known for its exceptional biodiversity, with more than 160 trees and over 100 ferns species. Various types of birds and butterflies are also found here, as well as many endangered species, including the mountain gorilla.
A glorious lush enfold across the steep ridges of the Albertine Rift Valley, this ancient rainforest is one of the few in Africa that has flourished throughout the last Ice Age and is home to roughly half of the world's mountain gorillas.Looking deep into the expressive brown eyes of these gentle giants is surely the most exciting and poignant wildlife encounter that Africa has to offer - but we should not let it distract from Bwindi's broader biodiversity, a result of its immense antiquity and an altitude span from 1,160 to 2,607m.
