Rwanda's the Parc National des Volcans is named after one of the most stirring and memorable sights in East Africa a string of magnificent free-standing volcanoes. Lake Kivu, one of a string of huge freshwater lakes which lie along Africa's Great Rift Valley. Lake Kivu is Rwanda’s largest lake, and the sixth largest lake in Africa.

Day 1: arrival Kigali

On arrival in Kigali International Airport you will be met by our representative and transferred to a city hotel for a restful night.

Day 2: Kigali - Volcanoes National Park Ruhengeri

After breakfast you tour the city of Kigali and its environs. Your visit starts by touring the Genocide memorial a permanent exhibition of the Rwandan genocide and an exhibition of other genocides around the world. Belgium memorial - to remember the 22 UN soldiers murdered during the genocide. Experience the people of Kigali by visiting the colourful local markets, and other important areas in Kigali. You will then be transferred to Ruhengeri in Volcanoes National park passing through scenic landscapes of rolling hill.

Day 3: Volcanoes National Park - Gorilla trekking and Nature Walk

After breakfast you start off early for the park headquarters where you will register and be assigned to a group for the gorilla trekking. When you`ve been briefed by your ranger guide you begin your walk at the trailhead. Trekking the mountain gorillas in the lush rainforest at the slopes of the Virungas will depend on which group you`ve been assigned. The terrain changes in succession from farmland to bamboo forests and rainforest before you will find the gorillas. You will return from tracking by mid-day. The afternoon is at leisure where you may relax at the Hotel or an option of experiencing a nature walk at the magnificent twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. Dinner and overnight at your Hotel

Day 4: Volcanoes National Park Golden Monkeys / Dian Fossey Hiking

After breakfast you depart for Parc National des Volc to track the unique primates - golden monkeys in the Volcanoes National Park. This experience is completely different but equally rewarding to trekking the gorillas. You track the golden monkeys with a guide through the lush forest and you spend an hour with them once you get them. Tracking the monkeys walk is generally easier than the trek to the gorillas but this will depend on the where the monkeys are located. Two troops of golden monkeys are habituated and both of them each have around 80 members in the family. You have an option of visiting Karisoke Research Centre and hike the tombs of our great primatologist – Diana Fossey.

Day 5: Ruhengeri - Lake Kivu

After a very rewarding experience with the mountain gorillas and golden Monkeys you depart for Lake Kivu. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before your journey to Lake Kivu driving over the magnificent scenic Rwandan landscape of rolling hills and the indigenous neat small farming villages and banana plantations. Descending to Gisenyi onward to your hotel where you stay or the next two nights relax for unwind and resting your weary legs after your two days of trekking in the Volcanoes National Park

Day 6: Lake Kivu

Day is at leisure for relaxing experiencing the land by exploring Lake Kivu and the environs. You may enjoy the activities that include swimming in the hotel pool, or in the lake, tour of Gisenyi Town, visit some of the nearby islands on the lake.

Day 7: Gisenyi - Kigali Nairobi

Depart from Lake Kivu this morning and drive back to Kigali en route you stop to take photographs on your way to the airport for your out bound flight.
