Lake Nakuru National Park in the Rift Valley is home to the famous Lake Nakuru. The lake is a shallow and strongly alkaline lake, set in a picturesque landscape of surrounding woodland and grassland.

Lake Nakuru is one of the Great East African Rift Valley lakes and was designated as a Ramsar site in 1990. The other Rift Valley lakes includes Lake Naivasha,Lake Baringo both are fresh water lakes while Lake Magadi, Lake Elementaita, Lake Bogoria and Lake Turkana are alkaline

Lake Nakuru is home to a myriad of bird species including vast flocks of greater and lesser flamingo which frequently form a stunning pink ribbon along the edges of the lake.

The Lake Nakuru National Park is a defined area of the park that has now been designated as a rhinoceros sanctuary and a protection area to the Rothschild girafee.
