The Volcanoes National Park  lies in north-western Rwanda and borders Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mgahinga  Gorilla National Park in Uganda.

Volcanoes National Park is description of the most striking feature of this national park. The Parc National des Volcans is named after one of the most stirring and memorable sights in East Africa a string of magnificent free-standing volcanoes.

The heights of the volcanoes range from 2500-4500 meters. The mountains are also known as the “Virunga” an English version of the Kinyarwanda word “ibirunga”, which means “volcanoes”.

It is also home to five of the eight volcanoes of the Virunga Mountains (Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo), which are covered in rainforest and bamboo.

The beautiful landscape and the lush equatorial rainforest whose bamboo trees form the natural habitat for the renowned mountain gorillas, the endangered golden monkeys and the colorful Albertine Rift endemic birds

Dian Fossey studied the gorillas for 20 years and it is largely thanks to her work that poaching was curtailed while there were still some gorillas to save.

Musanze Cave- The main cave reportedly 2 km long, has an entrance the size of a cathedral and is home to an impressive bat colony.
