Arusha is the entrance gate to the northern safari circuit of Tanzania and is situated on the foothills of the lofty Mt Meru which forms a striking backdrop.

On the eastern edge is the eastern branch of the Great East African Rift Valley. The northern safari circuit comprises of Arusha National Park, Lake Manyara, Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater.

Arusha is surrounded by verdant agricultural countryside where coffee, wheat and maize estates are grown. Arusha also referred to as "A" Town by the locals is regarded by many as little more than a necessary stopover before the beginning of a safari.

Arusha annually receives about 400,000 foreign visitors and has a innumerable interesting shops, bustling markets, exciting cultural events, vibrant night life and countless bars and restaurants that provide plenty of fun, activities and entertainment. Arusha is also the home for the United Nations Criminal Tribunal on the Rwandan genocide and headquarters of the East African Cooperation.

The town is located in the northern highlands of Tanzania on the foothills of Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Arusha rests in a fertile valley that’s the food basket of the country, producing half the nation’s wheat, coffee, flowers, beans and pyrethrum for export, also bananas, Maize, millet and vegetables are produced for domestic use.

 

 Arusha is a gateway to Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, Olduvai Gorge, Tarangire National Park, and Mount Kilimanjaro and the Arusha National Park on Mount Meru. Arusha is also ideally located as a departure point into the northern safari circuit of the Tanzanian wilderness.

 Arusha National Park just 35 kilometres away, Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara National Park’s biosphere and nature reserve are less than a day’s journey away.

Other famous attractions are the Ngorongoro Crater--the eighth wonder of the world; the spectacular endless plains of Serengeti National Park and the annual wildebeest migration; Olduvai Gorge where two-million year-old fossil bones of some of the earliest human ancestors were discovered along with their ancient stone tools and the remains of many extinct animals. Africa’s the towering snow-capped peaks of Mt. kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain.

Arusha is well connected to the rest of the world through Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Airport and Kenya by Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by air and road. Several international airlines (KLM, Ethiopian Airways and British Airways to name just a few) touch down at Kilimanjaro International airport (KIA). Passport and customs formalities   and you can obtain your visa at the airport immigration desk if you haven’t already got one
