Gombe River National Park and Mahale Mountains National Park this two Tanzanian parks neighboring each other are home to a remnant of some African’s wild chimpanzees.

The parks are tucked away on the shores of Lake Tanganyika - the World’s longest and second deepest freshwater lake.

Explore this rarely visited national park found on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, mountainous Mahale and Gombe offer an untouched Central African rainforest.

This unique and breathtaking forest offers a great opportunity to view the chimpanzee up close. Experience chimp trekking in July to October during the dry season when chimpanzees forage at lower altitudes.

For the active there are wonderful sightings of the Chimpanzees up higher in the mountains and very interesting scenic trip to the mountain waterfalls.

Gombe is famous for the pioneering work of Jane Goodall, who in 1960 founded a chimpanzees research program that now stands as the longest running study of its kind in the world.

The chimpanzees are the main attraction of the Park there are other species that include baboon, vervet monkey, blue monkey and bush babies, olive baboons are exceptionally habituated to people, while red-tailed and red colobus monkeys - the latter regularly hunted by chimps and mainly stick to the forest canopy.

 In addition to the famous chimpanzees other wild game seen here are leopard and bushbuck, along with fish eagles and Palm-nut vultures.
