National Museums of Kenya

 

The Kenya National Museums of Kenya is famed worldwide for its unique discoveries on the origin of man. The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) is a governmental body maintaining museums and monuments in Kenya. . Its headquarters and the National Museum (Nairobi museum) are located near Uhuru Highway between Central Business District and Westlands in Nairobi. Built in 1910 the institution by the East Africa Natural History Society (E.AN.H.S) has continued with its goal of scientific examination of the natural attributes of the East African habitat.
Kenya became independent in 1963 and the then Coryndon Museum was renamed "National Museum" in 1964 and was included in a new system, the "National Museums of Kenya."

The national museum provides historical evidence, that Kenya, Africa is the cradle of man where mankind was born ,learned to walk and talk. These original fossils some dating back 2.5 million years are found nowhere else in the world.Walking through this wonderful heritage one experiences the splendid history of Kenya, the diverse and richness of the Kenya culture                                                     

In the national Museum there is a snake park which houses live exhibits reptiles, material culture of different ethnic groups, fossils displays and the prehistoric rock art sites, there is also a birds gallery for birders with the mostly likely birds to be seen any where in the country.Within the city centre is the national archives which contains historical documents, photographs of both President Kenyatta and Moi visiting different countries, exhibitions of handicrafts and panting
Today the National Museum of Kenya has responsibility for about 20 regional museums, many sites, and monuments across the country. National Museum. below are some of them.
