The Mara Triangle
Historical Background The Mara Triangle covers an area of 520 Square Kilometres and is located on the western end of the reserve, neighboring Kerinkani, Olorien and Kimintet Group ranches. The Mara Triangle made up of the western third of the Maasai Mara National Reserve that stretches from the border of the Siria (Oloololo) Escarpment south to the Tanzanian boundary and east to the Mara River. It is one of the finest to be during the annual Wildebeest Migration as the animals cross the crocodile ridden Mara River in their thousands. The Mara Triangle was the initial area of the reserve until 1992 when the Narok County Council added a further 1,000 square kilometers to include two former group ranches, Sekenani and Musiara that trebled the original size of the reserve.
This part of the Mara falls under the Trans Mara District. The Musiara and Sekenani are part of Narok District and falls under the administration of the Narok County Council. The Mara Triangle is managed by The Mara Conservancy, a private Non Profit Organization. A certain proportion of revenue collected through park fees by the Mara Conservancy is paid direct to the communities that live on the border of the reserve. Access by road The Mara triangle can be accessed through the Oloololo Gate and is 320 Kilometres from Nairobi and it takes about six hours. Access by air The Mara triangle is serviced by Three Air Strips, The Mara Serena Airstrip, Kichwa Tembo Airstrip and Olkurruk. Daily scheduled flights from Nairobi, Nanyuki and Samburu

Musiara
Historical background Musiara is a former group ranch incorporated in 1992 into the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The Musiara swamp is fed by a natural spring on the northern boundry of the reserve. The swampy area about 2 kilometers Sq. The area is famous spotting lions made featured by the British Broadcasting Corporations in The Big Cat Diary series.
Musiara located in the centre of the Masai Mara Reserve. The Musiara swamp is found in the northwestern part of the reserve. Musiara covers an area of 256 Kilometres Sq.
Access by air Musiara is serviced by two airstrips with daily flights from Nairobi. There is an Airstrip at Mara Intrepids and at Governors. Access by Road Accessed through the Musiara gate and it take about six hours from Nairobi. It is around 340 Kilometers from Nairobi.

Sekenani Historical background Sekenani is south eastern sector of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. A former group ranch incorporated into the Maasai Mara National Reserve in 1992 by the Narok County Council.
Sekenani stretches from the Tanzanian border and Sand River north to the Talek River, Loita plains on Western side of the Mara River and East to the Olderkesssi and Naikara Group ranches. The Mara Triangle covers an area of 520 Square Kilometres and is located on the western end of the reserve, neighboring Kerinkani, Olorien and Kimintet Group ranches. Sekenani has an area of 700 kilometers Sq. Access by Air Sekenani is accessible by air via the Keekorok Airstrip with daily flights from Nairobi. Access by Road Sekenani can be accessed through the Talek gate, the Sekenani Gate or the Ololaimutiek Gate. 4WD vehicles are recommended especially during the rains.
